LEVEL TO SUPPORT VICTORIA EVANS IN WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT ATLANTIC SOLO ROW

Specialist law firm Level has partnered with sports lawyer Victoria Evans, who is also a partner at the firm, in her pursuit of a world-record solo row across the Atlantic Ocean.

Victoria’s row, and associated campaign ‘Sea Change Sport’, aims to draw attention to gender inequality in sport, in particular the barriers that prevent access to sport for women and girls. Victoria hopes to raise a minimum of £50,000 for the charity Women in Sport, whose mission is to ensure that every woman and girl in the UK can experience the transformational rewards of sport.

Fraser Reid, co-founder of Level, commented: “Our partnership with Victoria means we can support one of our own lawyers in her extraordinary journey across the Atlantic and help to raise awareness of gender inequality in sport. The core of our business is sport and entertainment law, so this is a perfect fit and only the start for us to support the cause going forward.”

Victoria was originally due to depart in February 2021, but was forced to postpone by 12 months due to COVID travel restrictions. With a revised departure date of February 2022, Victoria will leave from Tenerife and solo row over 3,000 miles (5,000km) across the Atlantic to reach the finish line in Port St. Charles, Barbados. She is hoping, subject to the weather, to do the crossing faster than the current world record of 49 days, 7 hours and 15 minutes becoming just  the 8th British woman to solo row the Trade Winds I Route from east to west.

On securing Level’s support as a corporate sponsor, Victoria said: “It’s fantastic to have your own firm commit to sponsoring a challenge you’re so passionate about. Not only does this assist with financial backing, but it means I have the encouragement and understanding from my colleagues in my bid to get to the finish line.”

To achieve her goal, Victoria will combine 12 or more hours of rowing a day with no more than six hours of sleep. The remainder of the time will be spent cooking, processing drinking water, cleaning, and maintaining the boat.
