SEA CHANGE SCHOOLS

Sport England advocate that every child and young person has the right to be active and to have an equal chance to achieve their potential. If children and young people have experiences that feel fun, positive, and give them a sense of confidence, they’re more likely to want to be active in the future.

Sport and physical activity can do so much good for our mental and physical wellbeing. Children who are more active are happier, more resilient and more trusting of others, but over half of children aged 5-16 are not active enough to enjoy these benefits.

While the current system works for many children, it doesn’t work for everyone. Some don’t have the same opportunities to be active, so they deserve extra support.

This is particularly true for girls, young people with a disability, or long-term health conditions, those from less affluent families and young people from Black and Asian backgrounds. If we are to achieve a culture shift, it’s also important that we demonstrate to everyone, boys and girls alike, that sport is a place for everyone.

Current inequalities in sport and activity start from a young age and need to be addressed. We need to make sure every young person has the same opportunities to succeed, with equal access to the entry points and pathways that underpin the talent system, and have experiences that are positive.

HOW TO JOIN IN

1.  Your school can commit to collectively complete 3000 miles of activity. This can be any activity you like – running, walking, cycling, playing football, swimming, PE lessons etc. The children should keep a log of their activity so they can see their progress.

2.  You can use the challenge to help Victoria to fundraise for Women in Sport by asking friends and family to sponsor the children’s activity. At the end of your challenge, donate the sponsorship money that you have raised direct to Victoria’s GoFundMe fundraising page. Children/schools should keep a note of donations made so that we can see the total from each school.

Donations should be made via the Sea Change Sport Go Fund Me link:
